Customer shot in robbery at Northeast Ohio Subway

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — A customer at the Subway along Kenmore Boulevard was shot Wednesday during an armed robbery.

It happened just after 6 p.m., according to a Thursday news release from Akron Police Department.

A woman reportedly placed an order then took a handgun out of her purse and demanded money from the register. The clerk opened the register and the suspect reached in and took an undisclosed amount in cash.

A customer then entered the store and the suspect tried to rob him as well.

“As the victim attempted to flee, he reportedly heard a gunshot and realized he was shot in the arm,” reads the release.

Officers gave the 55-year-old shooting victim first aid until EMS workers transported him to a nearby hospital. His injury is considered non-life-threatening.

Detectives are now working to identify the suspect.
