Customers could find out more about Samsung ice maker settlement this week

Slushy ice. Leaking. Over-freezing.

Thousands of people have complained online and to consumer watchdog groups about the ice makers on Samsung refrigerators.

“We used to thaw it out and put the door back in and then get ice for another day or so, but then it gets to a point where that’s ridiculous,” Meredith Folger said. “We feel like we kind of got just one pulled over on us.”

Folger contacted Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke. She said three days after he got involved, Samsung offered her a free one-time repair, which she said worked. “If I can keep one person from having to go through this, then I feel like I’ve sort of made something good out of the whole situation,” she said.

Samsung emailed Stoogenke and said it did not have any record of Folger’s problem until he reached out, but that it worked quickly to resolve the issue once it found out.

Stoogenke has been covering this issue since 2017. Some customers filed a class action lawsuit that year. Lawyers in the case told the judge they agreed on a settlement, and they’re supposed to report back to the court by the end of the week, which means the deal would most likely not be finalized until at least December.

Other customers filed a class action lawsuit this year, which is still in the early stages.
