Cuyahoga Falls hostage situation Monday was a police training simulation

Despite a slew of police scanner activity, there was no hostage situation Monday morning Cuyahoga Falls, a spokesperson for the police department said.

What sounded like a real incident complete with squads of police officers, hostages and a hostage taker who requested Gino's Pizza and coffee was actually training, according to CFPD.

"We're doing training today, so that's what you probably heard on the scanner," the spokesperson said.

The training took police officers through a simulated hostage situation that aims to prepare them for real-life incidents with real lives at stake, he said.
