Cuyahoga Falls schools to interview eight applicants for superintendent

Eight semifinalists have been chosen to interview for the superintendent's position in the Cuyahoga Falls City School District.

The education professionals selected from a pool of 26 applicants to be interviewed by the Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education are:

  • Andrea Celico, consultant to Cleveland Metropolitan School District; former superintendent of Bedford City Schools.

  • Christopher Hanke, superintendent, Garfield Heights City Schools.

  • Luther Johnson, area superintendent, Columbus City Schools.

  • Andrew Koonce, area superintendent, Cleveland Metropolitan Schools.

  • Daniel Rambler, director of student support services and security, Akron Public Schools.

  • Brian Rau, CEO/superintendent, Manchester Local School District.

  • Brian Williams, assistant superintendent, Copley-Fairlawn City Schools.

  • William "Matt" Young, assistant superintendent, Cuyahoga Heights City Schools.

The eight hopefuls will be interviewed by the board of education during executive session meetings during the week of Feb. 28.

Board of Education President Anthony Gomez said he will have more information on the next steps in the process once the board has finished interviewing the eight hopefuls.

Of those 26 candidates who applied for the superintendent vacancy by the Feb. 14 deadline, nine are superintendents, eight are principals, three are assistant superintendents, four are in other types of administrative roles and two are area superintendents.

The board of education on Nov. 17 approved the resignation for purpose of retirement of Superintendent Todd Nichols, effective Dec. 31. They also signed off on a separation agreement with Nichols, who served as the district's superintendent since 2011.

Russell A. Chaboudy was hired in mid-December to serve as interim superintendent until July 31. Chaboudy is a 1974 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School who served as superintendent of Coventry Local Schools for more than a decade before retiring at the end of 2017.
