As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage in Arizona, CVS Health will open a new office in Chandler.
The office, located along Spectrum Boulevard, will employ up to 500 people, including nurses, social workers, registered dietitians and behavioral health specialists.
Jason Clement, vice president of CVS Health, said the space will be used as a communications hub for patient advocacy and care management, with service employees working side-by-side with clinicians.
"It's not medical offices the way you might imagine going to a doctor's office," he said. "As you think about engaging with your health care company, anything and everything you might need to engage with them on is all located and fully integrated within these four walls."

Roughly 130 employees already have been hired to work in CVS Health's new office space in Chandler. The health care company expects to hire more than 300 in the next several months.
For now, all employees who are being hired are working remotely. The company hopes to hold a training class in August to onboard new workers, according to a news release from CVS Health and the city.
Micah Miranda, Chandler's economic development director, said the new jobs will significantly grow Chandler's employment base.
"It's pretty significant," he said. "Right now, Chandler has about 117,000 employees, so it's almost half a percent of all employment that is being added."
He said the company's move will greatly benefit Chandler's overall economy.
"If you have 500 employees and you add up all their discretionary spending, that goes to support local businesses (and) retailers," he said. "The multiplier effect in the community is very substantial."
Impact for Chandler
Clement said CVS Health chose to come to Chandler because it stood out as one of the "top choices" after an "exhaustive search."
He noted that the city is in a central location that attracts top applicants for a variety of positions.
We look at a number of things, but one of the biggest things we look at is just the access to great talent," he said. "We have what we call our service advocates, so those are kind of the front-end service positions, but then we also have a large number of clinical positions, and that sometimes can be a hard mixture to locate all within a certain geographic area."
Amid a pandemic, Clement believes CVS Health will bring particularly important benefits to Chandler. He said his team can help educate the community and guide people to appropriate resources.
"Whether we're supporting an employer that's here locally or supporting an employer that's in another state, we are interacting every day within the community that we are serving," he said. "We're able to help educate more."
CVS Health will also make approximately $10 million in improvements to their new building, which was built in 2009 and is located in the Allred Park Place development.
