Cyber Monday online sales drop for first time ever

Cyber Monday online sales have dropped for the first time since Adobe Analytics began tracking the data in 2012, according to a report from CNBC.

The analytics firm found a 1.7 percent decrease in Cyber Monday sales in 2021 compared to 2020, according to the business news outlet.

The group, which analyzes more than 1 trillion website visits, found consumers spent $10.7 trillion on Monday.

In 2020, sales were at $10.8 billion in one of the biggest online shopping days in the U.S.

Along with a drop in Cyber Monday, Sensormatic Solutions found in-store shopping on Black Friday was still down 28.3 percent compared to 2019, before the pandemic began.

Although the U.S. has coronavirus vaccines available for everyone above the age of 5, many were still concerned about going out on one of the biggest shopping days of the year.

Black Friday also came a day after officials announced concerns over the new omicron coronavirus variant, which has many experts scrambling to gather data.

Despite the new variant, Black Friday shopping was up 47.5 percent compared to 2020.
