Cycling-Contador crashes out on Tour de France 10th stage

LA PLANCHE DES BELLES FILLES France (Reuters) - Spain's Alberto Contador pulled out of the Tour de France after crashing heavily during the 10th stage on Monday. The double Tour champion fell off his bike in the descent from Le Petit Ballon and spent several minutes being treated by race doctors, blood dripping from his right knee. He got back on his bike and was being helped by his Tinkoff-Saxo team mates, some four minutes behind the peloton led by main rival Vincenzo Nibali's Astana team. But after climbing the category-one Col du Platzerwasel, Contador got off his bike again and stepped into his team car. He was the second top favourite to pull out of this year's race after defending champion Chris Froome of Britain crashed during the fifth stage.
