Cyclist identified after being killed by minivan in Chillicothe

PEORIA – A woman who was struck by a minivan while riding a bike in Chillicothe has been identified by the Peoria County Coroner's Office.

Shelly Perry, 67, of Chillicothe, suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries and suffered severe internal bleeding, said Coroner Jamie Harwood. Toxicology tests are pending, but Harwood said those will have no bearing on the cause of death.

On Friday, members of the Chillicothe police and fire departments as well as paramedics were called to the 500 block of North Bradley Avenue in Chillicothe on a report of a bicyclist being struck by a vehicle.

Perry was dragged under the vehicle for about 20 feet before the minivan came to a stop. She remained under the vehicle for approximately 20 minutes before being freed by Fire Department personnel. Initially semiconscious and distressed, she was transported to OSF HealthCare St. Francis Medical Center in critical condition. Her condition rapidly deteriorated and, despite aggressive treatment, she was pronounced dead in the emergency department at 10:57 a.m. that day.
