Cyclone Michaung: Fatalities in India’s Chennai

STORY: At least four people died in rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu state, including two killed when a building wall collapsed, the state's disaster management minister and a top official in his department said.

Chennai airport, one of the busiest in India, remains closed after its runway flooded.

Local resident Sri Nath said people were trying use cement bags to slow the water from entering their houses.

Cyclone Michaung was expected to make landfall on the coast of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday morning, the country's weather office said, with sustained winds of 90-100 kph (56-62 mph), gusting to 110 kph.

Authorities in both states were on high alert, evacuating thousands of people living in coastal areas, officials in both states said, with warnings issued to fishermen not to venture out to sea.
