Fresh on the heels of her incandescent portrayal of Aretha Frankin, Cynthia Erivo is ready to take on another important role.

The Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner is set to produce and lead a remake of the 1979 Bette Midler-headlined film “The Rose.”

According to Variety, Erivo is producing the project under her newly launched Edith’s Daughter banner.

The pint-sized vocal powerhouse – who scored two Oscar nominations for the Debra Martin Chase 2019 Harriet Tubman historical drama – will star as a self-destructive female rock star who “struggles to deal with the constant pressures of her career and the demands of those who surround her.”

It was a role and theme song that catapulted Midler into legend status, earning her an Academy Award nomination for best leading actress. In 1980, “The Rose” song was awarded best pop vocal (female) at the 23rd Annual Grammy Awards.

Erivo’s take on the tragic Bill Kerby-written drama puts “a contemporary lens on the high price of fame,” the outlet reported.

Centered on fame and addiction, the original film was loosely based on the life and career of Janis Joplin, who died at the age of 27 from a heroin overdose.

On Instagram, “The Color Purple” star confirmed the report and called the project a “dream come true.”

“The Rose,” considered a box office success upon its theatrical release, has developed a cult following and is currently not available on any streaming services.

In 2015, The Criterion Collection released the film on Blu-ray and DVD.
