Czech National Museum opens face mask exhibition

Introducing: the face mask exhibition

Location: Prague, Czech Republic

The Czech National Museum showcases

face coverings sent in by the public

many with personal stories behind them

(SOUNDBITE) (Czech) EXHIBITION CURATOR, MIRA BURIANOVA, SAYING:

"We tried to make a selection so that each mask has its own unique story which can tell the visitors what their fellow citizens were experiencing in the last weeks and months."

Masks became compulsory in the Czech Republic

and people began making their own at home

thanks to a national shortage

(SOUNDBITE) (Czech) VISITOR AND NURSE FROM BRNO, LUDMILA BRAZDOVA, SAYING:

"I work in healthcare and what caught my interest the most was that when we had nothing at all in the hospital, the whole nation rose up and sewed masks in a couple of days. People have to help each other."

Masks are now only required indoors

on public transport and in public buildings
