D-backs acquire C Swihart from Red Sox

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired catcher Blake Swihart on Friday, three days after the Boston Red Sox designated the former first-round pick for assignment.

Arizona also received international bonus-pool money in the deal, while shipping Double-A outfielder Marcus Wilson to the Red Sox.

Swihart, selected 26th overall in the 2011 draft, batted .255 with nine homers and 58 RBIs in 203 games over parts of five seasons for Boston.

Swihart, primarily a catcher, was batting .231 with one homer and four RBIs in 12 games this season before Friday's surprising move. The 27-year-old also saw playing time at first base and left field.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo is familiar with Swihart. Lovullo served as Boston's bench coach from 2013-16, including a seven-week stint as interim manager to end the 2015 season.

Wilson was batting .235 with two homers and seven RBIs in 12 games for Jackson of the Southern League.
