D.A. releases names of defendants yet to be tried on murder charges

Jan. 14—There are several defendants facing murder charges within the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit.

As of Wednesday, there were 22 such cases in six of the eight counties that comprise Georgia's second largest judicial circuit, according to District Attorney T. Wright Barksdale III.

Only two counties within the circuit have no murder trials pending — Putnam and Greene.

The majority of the murder cases pending are in Baldwin County.

Barksdale said there are nine such cases yet to be tried in that county involving 14 defendants.

Some of those defendants are being tried jointly in cases.

The defendants in the pending murder cases in Baldwin County include:

* Reco Antwan Stephens

* James Bonner

* Johnny Chapple

* T'Andre Alexander, Devion Boyd, Garyuntae Ivey, and Netobia Williams

* Richard Dotherow

* Brandon Hill

* Roderick Johnson

* Kevonta Daniels, Tarez Gordon, and Tyquerion Steed

* Xavier Chambers

Of the nine murder cases in Baldwin County, five involve the slayings of inmates at Baldwin State Prison near Milledgeville.

Hancock County has second highest number of murder cases yet to be tried.

There are five such cases pending in Hancock County.

They include the following defendants:

* Treyvion Crayton

* Stacey Terez Wilson

* Cleveland Gary Darrion Williams

* Javaris Compton

* Orlando Middlebrooks

Four of the Hancock County murder cases yet to be tried involve the slayings of inmates at Hancock State Prison, just outside Sparta.

Jones County ranks third within the circuit for murder cases yet to be tried.

There are three such cases pending that include the following defendants:

* Rashad Anthony Lay

* Sharon Wood

* Jeremy Butts

Two other counties within the circuit, Wilkinson and Morgan, each have two murder trials pending.

In Wilkinson County, the defendants include:

* Jordan LeMaster

* John Yozviak

In Morgan County the defendants are:

* Alison Jones

* Andrew and Rebecca Carson

The only other county with a pending murder case is Jasper.

The defendant in that case is Steven Chase Tillman.
