D51 Board of Education votes to join social media lawsuit

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — District 51’s bi-monthly school board meeting concluded with a unanimous vote to join a multi-district lawsuit against multiple social media companies.

The lawsuit is being pursued by a coalition of lawyers across the United States and targets social media companies – such as Instagram and TikTok – for “violations on the duty of negligence and public nuisance”.

Joel Wright, one of the attorneys in the coalition, estimates two thousand districts across the U.S. will join the suit.

Other items on the night’s agenda included an update on the new Grand Junction High School’s construction and a resolution to continue looking into enrollment concerns.
