WORCESTER - Investigators have charged a Fitchburg man in the 2013 death of Shaun Hibbard, who died soon after banging on doors in the Fitchburg neighborhood where he was shot, apparently seeking medical help.

He eventually collapsed on the porch of an apartment house before being rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The case remained unsolved for a decade, earning a mention on the recently released list of cases under continued investigation by Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

On Wednesday, Early's office announced that John Yang, 42, was charged with murder in the case. He is being held without bail pending his next court date, Oct. 18.

Shortly before he was shot, Hibbard, 33, had been in a confrontation outside his vehicle, at Forest and Charles streets. Once shot, he began knocking on doors, eventually collapsing at 46 Forest St., authorities said.

Early's office did not detail what led them to Yang, who was arraigned in Fitchburg District Court Tuesday.

In 2015, Yang was convicted of arson for his involvement in the 2013 firebombing of a Fitchburg house. At the time, authorities said Hibbard was the target of the attack. Yang was angry because Hibbard stole drugs and money from him, authorities said.

At one time, the two shared an apartment in Leominster.
