Da’Jon Terry, Jalon Daniels vs. Jason Bean + KU football updates: Kansas Jayhawks Q&A

As the Kansas Jayhawks prepare to play Oklahoma on Saturday, there’s one name that needs no introduction for many ardent KU fans: defensive lineman Da’Jon Terry.

Terry began his college career at KU but transferred to Tennessee after the 2020 season. He joined the Sooners before this season.

Terry wasn’t in Kansas long, but he made a lasting impression on KU offensive lineman Bryce Cabeldue.

“He was really, really, good whenever he was over here,” Cabeldue said. “Me knowing that he’s really good going (into the) OU (game) helps us prepare a little bit more.”

We’ll see how prepared the Jayhawks (5-2, 2-2 Big 12) look against the Sooners (7-0, 4-0) on Saturday.

But for now, it’s time for another Kansas Jayhawks Q&A. As always, thank you for the questions!

I don’t think so. Perhaps you’ve noticed that KU coach Lance Leipold has been more positive in the last few weeks about what’s happening with his recovery.

“Still progressing. Again, I remain very encouraged,” Leipold said Monday. “I’ll kind of leave it there. I think it’s still in the doubtful area — doubtful (or) questionable in those things, but again, I remain very optimistic.”

Leipold also shut down the redshirt rumors weeks ago, and I don’t think anything has changed there.

If I had to guess — this is speculation on my part — Daniels will have a decent shot to play against Iowa State.

Like you said, it’s a little too early. To be fair — Kansas has only played in three road games this season (Texas, Nevada and OSU).

The Jayhawks won at Nevada but lost to Texas and OSU. UT was heavy favorite heading into the game. I anticipate KU will beat Iowa State next week, but I think it’s fair to start discussing it if KU loses that game.

I believe it is lingering back tightness. And that’s a finicky injury, so the Kansas coaching staff is being extra-cautious with him because he is so valuable.

Bean has thrown for 913 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. The Jayhawks are 2-2 in his starts.

In comparison, KU started 5-0 last year. Daniels threw for 983 yards with 11 touchdowns and one interception.

It’s a lot closer passing stats-wise than I would’ve guessed. Of course, Daniels rushed for 329 yards (compared to Bean’s 93) and his decision-making is better than Bean’s.

The biggest thing KU misses with Bean starting is that Daniels processes the field much more quickly than Bean does. To that point, the mobile Daniels was sacked just twice in five games; Bean’s been sacked five times in four.
