DA: Women’s high school soccer coach in Lynn charged in series of sex crimes with students

A women’s high school coach in Lynn will face charges after an alleged series of sex-related crimes with students in 2022, the Essex County District Attorney’s office said Tuesday.

Oscar Juarez, the women’s junior varsity coach at Lynn Classical High School, allegedly solicited an 18-year-old former player and a juvenile to have a sexual relationship with him, DA Paul Tucker announced. Juarez is also accused of sending unsolicited pornographic images of himself to the player and of groping another juvenile player.

On Monday, Juarez was arrested and arraigned in Lynn District Court on felony charges of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and distributing pornographic material, and a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment of a child.

“It’s disgusting,” said Lynn resident Cheryl Upton. “I’m glad they caught him, and I hope he goes to jail for a long time.”

According to investigators, the coach of the varsity team tipped off the school principal after seeing a social media post earlier this summer.

Boston 25 News went to the Saugus home where Juarez resides.

A woman who identified herself as his wife did not want to comment on the allegations.

Juarez remains in jail on $10,000 bail after pleading not guilty to charges of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14, distributing pornographic material and reckless endangerment of a child.

Lynn Public Schools Compliance Officer Charles Gallo sent the following statement to Boston 25 News from the district:

The Lynn Public Schools was notified by the Lynn Police Department on August 7th that a former LPS Coach, an employee at will from Classical, has been charged with multiple criminal counts. Students’ safety, in school and including in LPS sports, is a top concern. As charges developed, LPS acted immediately and the individual in question was notified that there was to be no contact with any student in the LPS student community. Because there will be a personnel investigation, the Lynn Public Schools cannot share any further details. The District has no further comment in this matter.

Juarez pleaded not guilty and was held in the Middleton House of Correction on $10,000 cash bail, according to the DA’s office.

The Saugus man was ordered to stay away from all victims and witnesses related to the case, to not have any contact with any minors besides his own children and to not possess any dangerous weapons.

Juarez will appear in court on September 7 for a pretrial conference.
