A man is facing an attempted murder charge after his child was brought to a hospital with critical injuries, according to police.

Kendrick Laron Williams, 22, was arrested by the Alexandria Police Department and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center No. 1 on a charge of attempted second-degree murder, the agency said in a news release.

Williams remained in jail Wednesday morning with bail set at $300,000, according to police. He provided the jail with an address in the 1400 block of Jeannie Street in Pineville, while police say he's from Alexandria.

Police said they were alerted Tuesday morning about a 4-month-old baby brought into a hospital by ambulance with severe trauma to the baby's head.

The baby later was flown to another medical facility that specializes in child trauma, police said. As of Wednesday morning, the child was listed in critical condition.
