Ah those pesky dress up for school days. Sending parents into a making, buying, forgetting-all-about-it spin every single time. But one dad went over and above his parental duties for his little girl’s Superhero day, by donning a Superman costume to walk his anxious daughter to school.

When three-year-old Phoebe got last minute nerves about wearing her Batman costume because she thought it was a ‘boys’ costume, dad Danny Arnold stepped in to giver her the confidence boost she needed to wear it. The 29-year-old from St Helens, Merseyside came up with the genius idea of dressing as Superman and telling her they were best friends.

Despite being a huge fan of Batman and working on her costume all week, Phoebe became reluctant to wear it for fear of being laughed at. Taking to his Facebook page, the personal trainer explained his cunning plan to help her feel comfortable in wearing it.

“I gave phoebe her superhero outfit this morn for her school ‘superhero day’ but she refused to put it on because she was afraid of being different. She said she felt silly,” he wrote.

“So I put my kit on so she wouldn’t be alone. Your children should never feel silly! Or if they do - not care about doing so! Too many people these days concern themselves with how other people think about them - even complete strangers. Do whatever makes you smile and live a little.”

And as if walking to school dressed in a tight lycra costume wasn’t enough, the dad-of-two also got creative accessorising Phoebes costume by painting the mask pink and adding a sparkly black tutu to make it more like ‘Batgirl.’

The post has since been liked more than 10,000 turning Danny into quite the internet sensation. But though he thinks the attention the incident has garnered is amazing, he’s keen for people to appreciate his daughter’s role in it all. Taking to Facebook once again, he wrote:

“This superhero day thing being shared everywhere is amazing. But I feel I’m getting all the credit. Don’t forget a 3-year-old girl put her faith in what her father said. She trusted not to feel silly just because I joined her and told her so. She still plucked up courage to do something she initially felt uncomfortable with. My brave lil Phoebe.”

Most little girls think their dads are super heroes, but this dad has certainly earned that accolade.
