Dad eats free? Here’s where to find Father’s Day deals at Fort Worth restaurants
Father’s Day is not like Mother’s Day.
Dad might get taken out for a steak or a combo barbecue plate. But restaurants aren’t as crowded, and tables are easier to come by.
Almost every restaurant has tables available at lunch Sunday, based on an early check.
That includes Florida-based Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, opening special early hours for this holiday. (Corporate cousin The Capital Grille is also open but mostly booked.)
Here’s a glance at Father’s Day deals:
Pluckers feeds dads free
One restaurant chain has an extra-special offer.
Dads eat free on Father’s Day at the Austin-based Pluckers Wing Bar locations, if you sign up for online or smartphone specials through the “Pluckers Club.”
Pluckers specializes in wings dressed in a choice of 29 sauces, along with chicken sandwiches, burgers, salads and bacon-wrapped hot dogs.
It’s a routine chain, but with a few special touches such as cinnamon-sugar sweet-potato waffle fries.
Warning: The line gets long.
Go at 11 a.m. or an an off-time; 5601 SW Loop 820 or 9229 Rain Lily Trail in Fort Worth, 4000 Bagpiper Way in Arlington or 1709 Cross Roads Drive, Grapevine; pluckers.com.
Sky Creek Kitchen whiskey and cigars
Sky Creek Kitchen, in a Southlake hotel, is offering one of the few specific menus tailored to Dad.
The $75 brunch offers a choice of adobo-marinated steak-and-eggs, a lobster-ricotta omelet or a peach-bourbon-glazed pork chop, with appetizers, sides and a dessert of banana pudding and beignets.
But the bonus is on the patio: an old-fashioned and a cigar for $25.
Sky Creek is at 251 Texas 114 East in the Delta Hotels Dallas Southlake; 682-447-4606, skycreekkitchen.com.
Prime rib at Perry’s
Houston-based Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille’s Grapevine location is also offering a special.
And it’s a big one: a 22-ounce prime rib for $69, dine-in only.
The full dinner menu is also available; 2400 Texas 114 West, 682-477-2261, perryssteakhouse.com.
Jon’s, Woodshed for Sunday BBQ
Brisket has become a Father’s Day option.
Years ago, it was tough to find barbecue on Sundays. Now, it’s easy.
A few barbecue restaurants are open Sundays and offer easy-for-families table service.
▪ Try chef Jon Bonnell’s Jon’s Grille Burgers & Brisket, now serving barbecue platters along with hamburgers in a sports bar setting at 2905 W. Berry St. A brisket-and-sausage plate with a choice of sides sells for $22.
▪ Also consider chef Tim Love’s Woodshed Smokehouse, 3201 Riverfront Drive.
▪ Riscky’s BBQ has three locations open Sundays: in the Stockyards, Sundance Square and on Camp Bowie Boulevard.
▪ The very best barbecue requires a wait in line. But it’s worth the wait.
Try Panther City BBQ in central Fort Worth, Heim Barbecue on the River in west Fort Worth, Dayne’s Craft Barbecue in far west Fort Worth or Hurtado Barbecue in both Arlington and Fort Worth.
(Goldee’s Barbecue south of Kennedale has the longest lines, so go very early.)
More steaks and stuff
▪ Cattlemen’s Steak House, 2458 N. Main St. in the Stockyards, will open at noon.
It’s a good stop any Sunday for an old-fashioned Texas steak experience featuring tenderloins, rib-eyes, pork chops or calf fries.
Upgrades will begin soon for the new owners, investors connected to “Yellowstone” and Taylor Sheridan; 817-624-3945, cattlemenssteakhouse.com.
▪ The Star Cafe, 111 W. Exchange Ave. in the Stockyards, opens at 9 a.m. every Sunday now, serving a top-sirloin steak-and-eggs breakfast or its fabled chicken-fried steak, plus biscuits and gravy.
The lunch menu includes steaks, chicken and a wide variety of burgers; 817-624-8701, facebook.com/starcafefortworthtx.
▪ Quince, 1701 River Run in the WestBend shopping center, has launched its brunch menu to go with its regular menu of steaks, seafood, sushi, burgers and sandwiches.
Quince — Spanish for “15” — is along the Trinity Trail next to HG Sply Co., also a good brunch choice. Both have large patios along the Clear Fork of the Trinity River and the trail; 682-385-9073, quincesma.com.
▪ Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House locations will be serving prime rib ($32-$37). There’s a new location at 700 Texas 114 West, Grapevine, along with the north and south Fort Worth suburban steakhouses at 8501 Benbrook Blvd., Benbrook, and 4613 Denton Highway, Haltom City; hoffbrausteakandgrill.com.
▪ Blue Mesa Grill will open at 9 a.m. and serve an expanded $35 Sunday buffet including tenderloin, turkey, chipotle ham and mimosas, along with the usual Southwestern-style Mexican dishes; 612 Carroll St. near Montgomery Plaza, 817-332-6372, bluemesagrill.com.
▪ All the usual local brunch favorites are open and have tables available: B&B Butchers, Brewed, Café Modern, CRÚ Food & Wine Bar, Pacific Table, Provender Hall, Rise Soufflé, 61 Osteria, The Tavern, Towne Grill and Wishbone & Flynt, among many more.
