Dad jokes: People either laugh at them or not. What is the most popular in Kentucky?

It's Father's Day this weekend, one day of the year your father can tell his dad jokes and you feel obliged to laugh or at least pretend to find it interesting even though you might have heard the same thing more times than you can count.

Betting.us surveyed 1,500 dads and 1,000 of their partners in May to determine the most common dad-ism in each state along with which jokes moms find most annoying. The website defines dad-isms as "a corny joke, a tired quip, or a phrase more worn out than Dad's New Balance 530s."

So, what is the most common dad-ism in Kentucky?

"I'm not sleeping, I'm just resting my eyes."

That phrase is the top in seven other states including Texas, Florida and North Dakota. However, it's not the most popular dad-ism in the country, according to the survey results. That is: "Hi Hungry, I'm Dad."

As for the frequency of dad jokes Kentuckians hear, the survey said it's 3.29%. The state where most people are obsessed with dad jokes is Pennsylvania at 4.9%. The fewest are Oregon and Mississippi at 2.2%.

As for moms, the survey found the most annoying dad joke is the one Kentuckians like most: "I'm not sleeping, I'm just resting my eyes." Although, 51% said they "secretly enjoy when husbands/partners annoy their kids with dad jokes."

The survey also found that 35% "say that they take part in dad-isms because it makes their kids laugh. We haven’t seen any kid laugh at a dad joke ever, but…it’s almost Father’s Day; let’s let them have it," the website says.

But, 7% admitted they keep telling dad jokes because it became a habit "that's hard to kick" and 23% said that is their job as fathers.

Now, here is a list of father stereotypes that are actually true:

  • 54% of dads nap at inconvenient times

  • 44% of dads refuse to read instructions

  • 39% of fathers repeat the same stories

  • 33% of dads hog the remote control

  • 31% of fathers have a sneaker collection that is made up of the same sneakers: one for mowing the yard and one for going out

  • 27% of fathers think they can fix anything when he really can't

  • 26% of dads always know when somebody changed the thermostat

Opinion: For Father’s Day, let’s work to end hunger in our community.
