Dad is shot in the back while at Waffle House with his daughter, Kentucky police say

A Kentucky man is recovering after he was shot inside of a Louisville Waffle House, police and family members told news outlets.

“It’s just an ongoing thing. The guy wasn’t supposed to be around any of us,” the man’s son Eric Stovall told WHAS.

The man was at the Waffle House on Jan. 1 with his daughter when he ran into his other daughter’s ex-boyfriend, according to WLKY.

“We walked in. My dad walked up to him. My dad told him after he put his hands on my sister that he’s going to beat him up. That was inevitable, you know,” Jordan Miller, the man’s daughter who was with him at the time of the shooting, told WLKY.

Stovall was on his way to join his dad and sister, but before he could get there, his dad was shot, WAVE reported.

“My dad hit him two or three times, and then he pulled the gun straight out. He didn’t even try to swing back. He pulled the gun straight out. My dad turned to try to protect me and he shot him in his back,” Miller told WLKY.

The man was shot in the back multiple times, the Louisville Metro Police Department told WAVE. No one else in the restaurant was injured.

He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive his injuries, police told WHAS. One person was detained.
