Daily coronavirus update: Positivity rate drops below 2%, hospitalizations increase by 4

After Connecticut saw its highest COVID-19 positivity rate since early May this week, its dropped slightly below 2% Wednesday as hospitalizations continue to increase.

Positivity rate

The state reported 228 COVID-19 cases out of 11,683 tests for a positivity rate of 1.95%, which is down from Tuesday’s 2.7%, which was the highest figure Connecticut has seen since May 11.

The state’s seven-day positivity rate stands at 1.44%.

Hospitalizations

As of Wednesday, Connecticut has 58 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, an increase of four since Tuesday and the highest number since June 13, when there was 71 hospitalizations.

This figure has steadily increased since July 11 when the state reported just 25 hospitalizations.

State officials have not yet reported how many hospitalizations, or positive tests, are from individuals who are unvaccinated. Yet, hospital officials have said most patients who are severely ill with COVID-19 have not received their vaccine.

Deaths

Connecticut will report its COVID-19 death toll every Thursday. It last reported 8,282 deaths, during the pandemic.

The United States has now recorded 609,686 COVID-19 deaths, according to the Coronavirus Resource Center at Johns Hopkins University.

Vaccinations

As of Wednesday, 68.7% of all Connecticut residents and 78.9% of those 12 and older have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, while 62.5% of all residents and 71.7% of those 12 and older are fully vaccinated, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
