Daily Devotional: Wrapping up Christmas

"And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching." — Hebrews 10:24-25 NRSVUE

Christmas presents — I love them!

Years ago, I recall feeling exhilarated having finished my shopping a whole two days before Christmas. But then I faced my biggest hurdle: the wrapping. Bits and pieces of paper and tape everywhere. On the counter, the floor, and even a small piece stuck occasionally to the bottom of my shoe. Never a clue how it got there.

Sigh. I’m not very good at wrapping presents. Never got better. I only did it once a year, and it showed. I finally did develop a technique that made my wrapping look OK, until you looked at the bottom of the gift. The underside resembled a mass of corners, folds, and tape upon tape. Yuck. That’s the price I paid for only occasionally doing any wrapping and being rushed on top of it. Happily, life got better when I married someone who loves gifts as much as I do, and is an accomplished wrapper!

What if someone could see the underside of our life?

What would they see? What holds us together?

Are we held together by the spiritual glues of Fellowship, Bible Study and Prayer? Or are those just occasional things that we practice 1-2 times/year? Just checking.

Prayer: Lord? When I forget the Basics, it shows. Keep me faithful to You.
