Daily Digit: More Americans are cutting the cord, but cable is still king

Daily Digit is the story behind the numbers that make our world work. Today we’re looking at the growing number of Americans who are ditching cable for good in favor of an all-streaming entertainment diet. An estimated 33 million people, about 15 percent of the total television audience, have “cut the cord.” That number is predicted to grow to at least 25 percent in the next four years. However, the era of traditional pay TV — provided by cable, satellite, and phone companies — isn’t quite over yet. While the streaming audience is growing, most viewers watch in combination with cable, rather than replacing it altogether.
