The Daily Dose, an organic cold-press juice company that started in Slinger in 2020, is planning on opening a second location in Whitefish Bay by mid to late-summer.

The space at 619 E. Silver Spring Drive in Whitefish Bay was previously occupied by Penzeys Spices, which closed in 2020 and has been vacant since.

The Daily Dose will sell juice, smoothies, coffee and small food bites, like overnight oatmeal and avocado toast.

"We really feel like this is the type of business that will thrive in Whitefish Bay," said co-owner Kelly Balthasar who is a co-owner with her husband Matt, both long-time Whitefish Bay residents.

This is the second business in the past year to apply for a permit to open in the space.

North 48, a craft cocktail and craft beer bar, submitted an application for the space last March, but withdrew its application because it would have been too expensive to bring the space up to fire code, said Village Manager Paul Boening.

Due to its occupancy rate being lower than North 48, the owners of The Daily Dose don't anticipate having issues with the cost of maintaining safety codes, said Matt Balthasar.

"One of the things we wanted to make sure is that we didn't get far on this path and then have the rug pulled out from underneath us," he said.

No other businesses have applied to occupy that space, said Boening.

The Balthasars, who have three daughters, said they decided to open a franchise location of the business in Whitefish Bay after meeting the owners of the Slinger location and hearing about their success.

"There's not a lot in Whitefish Bay from a healthy standpoint," said Matt. "We thought bringing something of this caliber to Whitefish Bay would not only relate to our lifestyles, but also we think it would be great for the community as well."

The business will be open Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the proposal. The owners anticipate employing 10 people. The location will also have a reserved space for meetings or parties, said Matt.
