Twelve candidates have declared for three seats on the board in Morris County's largest municipality. The district includes two high schools, two middle schools and 10 elementary schools serving more than 7,000 students.

Parsippany enters the school year with a new acting superintendent, Robert Sutter, who was promoted from assistant superintendent in June.

The candidate field includes two incumbents, Kendra Von Achen and Matthew DeVitto. Debra Orme is not running for re-election.

Tim Berrios, who resigned from the board and its presidency in May, is back on the ballot. Berrios resigned to avoid conflict while his daughter was in the process of being hired by the district. Guided by legal advice counseling him the conflict is no longer relevant, Berrios is back on the ballot. He is running on a ticket with DeVitto and another former board member, Andrew Choffo.

The public is invited to submit forum questions for consideration online by Oct. 1.

The Daily Record, NAACP and League of Women Voters hosted a forum for Dover mayor and town board candidates last week.
