The Republican nominee for N.C. governor is gaining nationwide attention following his big win in Tuesday’s primary — some of it unwanted.

Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson found himself subject of a lengthy segment on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” this week, which replayed a string of his quotes with the GOP candidate decrying transgender people, gay people, Jewish people, school shooting victims and abortions.

The show further aired coverage of Robinson calling the Civil Rights Movement “crap,” Martin Luther King Jr. “a Communist” and Beyoncé “Satanic.”

While hardly news in North Carolina, these quotes are now reaching national ears.

“Wow, this guy hates everybody,” said “Daily Show” correspondent Ronny Chieng. “Gay people, Jewish people, women, school shooting survivors, Beyoncé. This guy is so into hating people he even hates MLK. I know we’re a divided country, but I thought the one thing we all could agree on was MLK good.”

Robinson’s campaign has not responded to a request for comment.

Robinson, the state’s first Black lieutenant governor, defeated State Treasurer Dale Folwell and Salisbury attorney Bill Graham in Tuesday’s Republican primary election. He will face Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein in November.

Wednesday’s episode marked the second time this week North Carolina politics have provided joke material for “Daily Show” writers. Earlier, Jordan Klepper polled Raleigh voters at a recent Nikki Haley rally and found them unwilling to even consider voting for Donald Trump — unless the choice is Biden.

Chieng, though, added a new layer of sarcasm.

“You can’t just hate everyone and leave out the Asians,” said Chieng, who is Malaysian. “That’s racist. I will give him credit, though. You don’t usually hear an anti-Semite busting out Yiddish. It’s a very woke form of hatred.”
