Dairy products, salad kits and more linked to deadly Listeria outbreak

AUSTIN (KXAN) — As you prepare your snacks and dinner for Super Bowl weekend, there are certain food items containing certain products that are linked to a deadly listeria outbreak, according to Texas Health and Human Services.

Two people died, including one from Texas, and more than two dozen people got sick, the agency said.

“Listeria is a bacterium that can cause serious infection, especially during pregnancy and in people over 65 or with a weakened immune system,” THHSC said on its website.

Those recalls include sauces, salad dressings, meal kits, as well as other items sold at H-E-B, Walmart, Trader Joe’s and other stores in Texas, the agency said.

The initial warning Texas health officials issued this week include queso fresco and cotija cheese from Rizo Lopez Foods Inc. and more, according to the FDA website.
