Dakota VanLeeuwen replaces Peter Foley on bench of Morgan County Superior Court I

Former Morgan County attorney Dakota VanLeeuwen was sworn in Monday afternoon as judge of Morgan County Superior Court I.

VanLeeuwen replaces Judge Peter R. Foley, who was appointed to the Indiana Court of Appeals. Gov. Eric Holcomb appointed VanLeeuwen to replace Foley on the bench.

VanLeeuwen received a private swearing in Friday morning so she could begin hearing cases. Her public ceremony was held Monday afternoon in the Morgan County Superior Court III courtroom. Family, friends, and co-workers filled the courtroom as Morgan County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Hanson performed the ceremony.

In her remarks after being sworn in, VanLeeuwen said she is "humbled, honored and elated to represent Morgan County in this capacity."
