Dakota Wesleyan softball splits a pair of Presentation Dome Classic games

Feb. 21—ABERDEEN — The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team split a pair of games at the Presentation College Dome Classic Saturday.

The Tigers scored a 10-5 win over Mayville State and then dropped a 14-0 contest to Valley City State.

Against Mayville State, the Tigers scored five runs in the third inning to break a 2-2 tie and took control. Stephanie Gabel led the way for DWU (5-5), going 2-for-4 and driving in four runs, including a two-run home run in the first inning.

Alyssa Burke earned a complete-game win in the circle, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and eight walks, while striking out nine. She also went 3-for-5 with an RBI at the plate.

Adriana Thomason, Meghan Daffern, Allison McElveny, Reagan Grossi and Katelyn Farris all had RBIs.

Valley City State scored 11 runs in the third inning and collected 15 hits over five innings. Emily Smith allowed three hits and fanned 14 Tigers to get the win.

Alyssa Garcia, Grossi and Thomason accounted for DWU's three hits in the game.

The Tigers travel to Sterling (Kan.) for a doubleheader on March 9.
