Dakota Wesleyan University's Katlyn Briggs qualifies for NAIA nationals in discus throw

May 2—SEWARD, Neb. — Dakota Wesleyan University's Katlyn Briggs secured a spot in the NAIA national outdoors championships on Saturday.

The Plankinton native finished seventh in the discus throw at the GPAC outdoor track and field meet in Sioux Center, Iowa. She finished with a toss fo 143-feet and 6-inches, which is the 16th best mark in NAIA. She also earned all-conference honors. The NAIA national meet is May 26-28 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

DWU's Lydia Gerber earned a pair of all-conference nods as she finished second in the triple jump (37-9.50) and was fifth in the long jump (17-10.75).

Nate Rupprecht and Avany Long were also all-conference honorees. Rupprecht claimed eighth in the decathlon with 5,296 points and was powered by his throwing events. He had the best shot put mark (39-9.75), the fourth best discus throw (104-10) and the fifth best javelin (127-7).

Long placed seventh in the heptathlon with 3,709 points. Long's 103-feet and 4-inch toss in the javelin throw was the third best in the field.
