Republicans have high hopes of gaining seats across the country in this year’s midterm elections. One local Republican hoping to gain office this year is lifelong Maybee resident Dale Biniecki, who is running for the freshly redrawn 31st Michigan State House district.

The retired businessman said in a press release announcing his candidacy that he is focusing on road infrastructure, food security and agricultural issues.

“As a materials transporter, I have seen issues that could have been done differently to save taxpayers money. Roads do wear out, but completely replacing the base every 20 years has got to stop,” Biniecki said in the press release. “I believe there are ways to cut the time and expense involved in the rebuilding process. Since the 31st District includes parts of three major highways – US-23, I-75, and I-275 – I believe we need a candidate who can properly represent constituents regarding this issue.”

The long-running shocks to the global supply chain due to of the coronavirus pandemic, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine have both partially put a squeeze on agricultural prices around the world. Russia and Ukraine are major bread baskets and the fact that their agricultural exports have been severely disrupted has resulted in a knock on effect that has substantially raised food prices globally.

Biniecki also stated his opposition to solar farm projects that take up productive agricultural land, arguing it would be detrimental to food prices by reducing the acreage of arable land available to produce for the market. The press release said that “Biniecki contends that solar energy production is feasible, but it must be located in places that are less detrimental to agriculture.”

Michigan recently moved control of its decennial redistricting process from the state legislature to a non-partisan redistricting commission. The 31st district now consists of Milan, London, Exeter, Dundee, and Rasinville Townships in Monroe County. It will also include Belleville, Van Buren Township, Sumpter Township and part of Romulus, in Wayne County; Washtenaw County’s York and Augusta Townships; as well as all of Milan.

Biniecki also voiced support for traditional education, homeschooling, parental involvement in education, career technical education, and STEM education.
