Dallas Center-Grimes Superintendent Scott Grimes steps down after more than a decade

The superintendent of the Dallas Center-Grimes School District, Scott Grimes, is resigning from his post effective June 30.

A letter sent Thursday to families said the School Board and Grimes "have had a continuing dialogue over the past couple of months about the direction of district leadership." The school board met in a closed session Tuesday evening and agreed to accept his resignation.

Meeting notes reflect that the decision was unanimous and had "been determined by the board to serve a public purpose and is in the best interests of the district."

In the letter, Grimes praised the district's "educational model" and its teachers, staff and administrators for their commitment "to student success every single day."

"The DCG staff continues to show up every single day. They show up for each other, they show up for their building, and most importantly, they show up for their students. I’m confident that our staff will lead the district through upcoming changes. Public schools in Iowa are facing challenges today, tomorrow, and in the coming months ahead. The team at DCG will continue to make our district a model example in the midwest," he said in the letter.

School Board President Kathie Hicok praised Grimes' leadership and thanked him for his service to the district.

"It’s rare to find an individual who is so committed to the students and families he serves as superintendent," she said.

Grimes has served as the superintendent of the school district since 2011. He previously served as an elementary school principal and later as a superintendent for the Louisa-Muscatine Community School District, according to his Linkedin page.

The School Board plans to meet in early March to begin the search process for a new superintendent, according to district spokesperson AJ Ellingson.
