Dallas Keuchel wins the AL Gold Glove Award for pitchers — his 5th overall and 1st with the Chicago White Sox

For the third straight season, a Chicago White Sox player earned a Gold Glove Award.

Dallas Keuchel was named the American League winner for pitchers, Rawlings announced Sunday night. It’s the fifth Gold Glove for Keuchel and his first with the Sox.

Keuchel didn’t have the results he’s accustomed to on the mound in 2021, going 9-9 with a 5.28 ERA and being placed on the taxi squad for the playoffs.

But he continued to make plays defensively throughout the season, leading AL pitchers with 12 defensive runs saved, according to fangraphs.com.

Keuchel had one error in 49 chances. The error, which occurred May 23 against the New York Yankees, was his first since Sept. 16, 2017. Keuchel won the award from 2014-16 and again in 2018 with the Houston Astros.

Former Sox infielder Yolmer Sánchez won the Gold Glove at second base in 2019. Last year Luis Robert won the award at center field as a rookie.

Keuchel is the fourth Sox pitcher to win the award, joining Jake Peavy (2012), Mark Buehrle (2009-11) and Jim Kaat (1974-75).

Chicago Cubs pitcher Zach Davies was a National League finalist. The award went to Max Fried of the Atlanta Braves.
