Fans want to make sure Texas Sen. Ted Cruz knows the Rangers are based in Arlington not Dallas.

It’s a sensitive subject for some, weary of North Texas as a whole being lumped in with Texas’ third largest city. Arlington is a major city in its own right and home to more than 394,000 people.

Cruz, who is from Houston and an Astros fan, congratulated the Rangers on their big win in a Monday post on X. The Rangers’ Game 7 victory over the Astros advanced the team to the World Series.

“I’m a life-long Astros fans—tough night—but Dallas won it with a fantastic performance in game 7,” Cruz’s reads. “They earned it. And we have a Texas team in the #WorldSeries So, go Rangers!!!!”

It’s referring to the Rangers as “Dallas” that’s gotten some attention online.

“You mean Arlington. Not Dallas,” wrote Ricky Rodriguez, the former executive director of the Tarrant County Republican Party.

“Ted out of all of the things you’ve done referring to the rangers as Dallas is the one that has caused me to dislike you the most,” wrote another user.

From another, “This is like when your non sports fan friend tries to talk baseball with you.”

“Big sports guy refers to the Rangers as ‘Dallas,’ said Sawyer Hackett, a Democratic strategist and consultant who is a senior advisor for a political action committee that opposes Cruz, a Republican.

Cruz was also getting social media pleas from Houston fans who begged him to not go to the Monday game. They saw him as bad luck after the Astros lost games the senator attended.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson welcomed Cruz’s support of the Texas Rangers.

“Somebody get this man a @Rangers jersey ASAP,” Johnson said in a post on X. “This Texas ball club has made an entire nation happy tonight! #GoAndTakeIt #WorldSeries
