Dalton, Norwayne, Wooster earn superior ratings at High School Play Festival

The 2023 All-County Cast at the Wayne County Play Festival are Hayden Ringle, Norwayne; Caleb Singer-Holden, Wooster; Isaac Himes, Dalton; Lane Miller, Waynedale; Elizabeth Kindig, Chippewa; Jaira Daye, Triway; and Josiah Gillman, Northwestern.
The 2023 All-County Cast at the Wayne County Play Festival are Hayden Ringle, Norwayne; Caleb Singer-Holden, Wooster; Isaac Himes, Dalton; Lane Miller, Waynedale; Elizabeth Kindig, Chippewa; Jaira Daye, Triway; and Josiah Gillman, Northwestern.

DALTON − The setting for the annual One Act Play Festival on Jan. 24 was Dalton High School, where students from seven high schools displayed their talents and receive performance ratings from qualified judges.

Participating high schools in the Wayne County High School Play Festival, sponsored by Tri-County Educational Service Center, were Chippewa, Dalton, Northwestern, Norwayne, Triway, Waynedale and Wooster.

Each school received oral and written critiques, as well as, an overall rating from a team of adjudicators. In addition, an all-county cast member was named from each school.

The overall Superior ratings by the judges were:

  • Dalton High School’s production of “With Regards to Cooper Clawson’s Conscience” written by Bryan Starchman, directed by Robin Evans-DelCiappo

  • Norwayne High School’s production of “Stopping at Ellis Island” written by Thomas Hischak, directed by Beth Smith

  • Wooster High School’s production of “10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse” written by Don Zolidis and directed by Kristin Broda

Students receiving outstanding actor/actress recognition and named to the 2023 All County Cast were Hayden Ringle, Norwayne, for his role as “Hershel” in "Stopping at Ellis Island;" Caleb Singer-Holden, Wooster, for his role as “Jimmy” in "10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse;" Jaira Daye, Triway, for her role as “Contestant #1” in "Loving Every Nook and Granny;" Isaac Himes, Dalton, for his role as “Cooper Clawson” in "With Regards to Cooper Clawson’s Conscience;" Josiah Gillman, Northwestern, for his role as “Major General Stanley” in "Pirates;" Elizabeth Kindig, Chippewa, for her role as “Sarah” in "Paper or Plastic"; and Lane Miller, Waynedale, as “Sam” in "Rideshare Overshare."

Adjudicators were Brian Chandler, associate professor of Theatre Arts, University of Akron; Chiquita Mullins Lee, Ohio Arts Council Arts learning coordinator, and Ansley Valentine, associate professor of theatre, Indiana University Bloomington.

Coordinator of the festival was Dr. Michelle Muro, fine arts consultant for Tri-County Educational Service Center. Robin Evans DelCiappo, Dalton High School drama director, served as chairman for the Play Festival.
