It sounds like there will be another rumble of thunder in Mount Pleasant.

Max Majerle, the son of one of the greatest players in Central Michigan basketball history, Dan Majerle, announced on social media on Thursday that he is following his father's footsteps to play for CMU.

Max, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound shooting guard, is from Scottsdale, Arizona, but played last season at Brewster Academy, a boarding school in New Hampshire.

Max is the fifth member of CMU's class of 2022. The others are guards Reggie Bass of Muncie, Indiana, and Emil Skyttä of Finland, and forwards Ola Ajiboye of Chicago and Josiah Sanders of Scottsdale.

Dan, a star in the early 80s at Traverse City Central, averaged 21.8 points and 8.9 rebounds, shooting 43.1% from the 3-point line in his four seasons at CMU. In his junior season, 1987, Majerle led the Chippewas to their first NCAA tournament appearance in 10 years. He graduated from CMU as the school's all-time leading scorer.

He went on to play in the 1988 Olympics and then play 14 seasons in the NBA, becoming a three-time All-Star. He then went on to coach Grand Canyon University from 2013-20, winning 60.4% of his games.
