Dan Meikle named Musgrove Evans Award recipient for 2023

TECUMSEH — An entrepreneur who over the past several years has rehabilitated some of downtown Tecumseh's oldest buildings is the 2023 recipient of the Musgrove Evans Award.

Dan Meikle will be honored at a dinner Nov. 8 at The Ashlar, 700 Bishop Reed Drive in Tecumseh. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at www.greaterlenaweechamber.org/musgroveevans. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m.

The Musgrove Evans Award is named for the founding father of Tecumseh. It is awarded by the Greater Lenawee Chamber of Commerce to an individual or couple who have made Tecumseh a better place in which to live.

In 2014, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority awarded a grant to Meikle's project to develop five rental units on the upper floor at 112 W. Chicago Blvd., known as the James Block building.

In 2020, Meikle started working on a similar project next door in the Union Block building to develop four more rental units in the upper floors.

Meikle now offers a collection of apartments and short-term suites in the buildings. Businesses on the first floor include The Vault ice cream and sweets shop and Harvest Chocolate.
