CHEBOYGAN — The Rotary Club of Cheboygan is celebrating 100 years of service to the community, and the anniversary festivities will be paired with the Dance Cheboygan event on Friday.

The last Dance Cheboygan event was hosted in 2019. At that time, the Rotary Club teamed up with McLaren Hospice House in Cheboygan to share the proceeds. This year, the club is not doing a competitive dance program, but will have local talent help the club recognize its centennial year.

Net proceeds from the event will go back to the community. The primary use of these funds will be used for college scholarships for local students.

The celebration will be hosted Friday, Aug. 5, at the Ralph Cantile Ice Pavilion on Cleveland Avenue. Doors for the event will open at 5:30 p.m. for cocktails and a chance to mix and mingle with the dancers for those who purchased VIP tickets. For general admission to the show, the doors will open at 6 p.m., and the program begins at 6:30 p.m.

"Rotary is grateful to the City of Cheboygan to be able to celebrate a significant accomplishment in our Rotary history and hope our community will help us to make this a night to remember," said Diane Raab, Cheboygan Rotary Club past president.

At Friday's event, there will be a presentation of Rotary through the years. Then, there will be performances by some talented Cheboygan community members, including:

  • The Northern Cloggers and a solo ballet performance by Kaylene Zaryczny.

  • The Cheboygan Area Arts Council School of Dance will be performing a number requested from their dance recital at The Opera House. These dancers include Erica Clymer, Meredith Willis, Ava Brandau, Izzy Taylor, Caitlin Easter, Gloria Maltby, Airlann Miller, Audrey Redding, Estella Redding, Abby Yeck, Mallory Ekdahl and Stella Francis.

  • The Cheboygan Cheer will perform, with the support and guidance of their coaches, Carole Yeck, Kate Schulz and Amber Hansen.

  • A solo tap performance by 15-year-old Stella Francis.

  • An encore performance by the Twisted Sisters and Friends. This group includes Annette Eustice, Carole Yeck, Alice McPherson, Cammie Yeck — commonly referred to as the Yeck Girls — Macy McPherson, Abby Yeck and Kim Staffan, a prior Dance Cheboygan contestant. They may also have Nikki Chamberlain, Kate Schulz, Shiela Martin and Ronda Vanhimbergen joining them.

Following the performances, the Rotary Club will then open the floor for VIP ticket holders to “dance the night away."

In between the dancers, there were several other acts, including performances from the Cheboygan Cheer team at the 2019 Dance Cheboygan event. This year, there is not a competition between dancers, it is more of an exhibition of dance to celebrate Rotary's 100 years in the community.

VIP passes are available for main floor seating, which gives you early admission to mix and mingle, food from local restaurants, front row seating around the dance floor and one free drink, for $40. VIP tickets must be purchased in advance of the event.

Bleacher tickets will be available at the door for $5 per person. Those sitting in the bleachers can access food at the ice rink concession stand, as well as purchase drink tickets for beer or wine.
