Dance classes teaches children disciplines that improve their performance in school

FREMONT - Kassandra’s Dance Academy has opened registration for the fall class season which begins on Sep. 5. The studio, owned by Director of Dance Kassandra Ringle, will open just in time to give students a leg up on their school studies.

“Dance teaches the kids discipline, commitment, and how to work together as a team. It’s amazing to see how much they’ve learned and grown and been able to retain by the end of the year,” Ringle said. “A lot of our kids are really good in school, because dance helps with memory and retention. It expands their vocabulary and learning base.”

Classes range from ballet to tumbling

Kassandra’s Dance Academy offers a wide variety of classes including ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, tumbling, acrobatics, gymnastics and cheer. Mommy and Me and Parent-taught Tumbling classes are available, and some adult classes are offered.

“I just started offering specialized classes, such as if someone wants to learn a dance for a wedding,” Ringle said.

Six-year-old Josephine Keegan began taking classes last year with her leg in a cast.

“She broke her leg and had the cast put on the day before classes were supposed to start,” said her mom, Heather Keegan. “She came anyway and did the hand movements from a chair.”

When she was cleared for classes, Josephine jumped into ballet, lyrical and gymnastics training.

“When she started gymnastics, she couldn’t even do a cartwheel. By the time of the recital, she could do one-handed cartwheels,” Heather said. “Kassandra is really nice. She’s good with the girls. They all love her.”

Ringle took her first ballet class when she was 3 years old, and by the time she was 8 she “was in the studio taking everything and anything I could,” she said.

She earned a degree in horticulture from the Ohio State University with a minor in dance. She also owns Rose Leaf Flowers in Tiffin.

“As I was growing up, I was always interested in horticulture and dance. It worked out to do both things that I love to do,” she said. “It’s not always easy because they’re very different, but I incorporate them when I can.”

Academy to host 1980s Dance Party, Princess Ball

Kassandra’s Dance Academy will host a public 1980s Dance Party on Sept. 1 and a Princess Ball on Sept. 9. Both events are open to children ages 5 and up.

“They don’t need to be members to attend. The kids will dress up, dance and have fun,” Ringle said.
