The Dance Gallery to host 'Portrait at Lubbock's Buddy Holly Hall

The Dance Gallery School of Dance Arts will mark its 42nd anniversary with a major production, "Portrait," June 3 and 4 at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences. The Dance Gallery will feature over500 dancers and over 1,200 costume changes.“Portrait” is a celebration of the arts and the artists who create them, according to a statement from Buddy Holly Hall. The dancers will explore a gallery of fine arts from Degas’ ballerinas to Van Gogh’s Starry Night, portray fashion icons like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, and honor spiritual leaders like Mother Theresa. Audiences will be enchanted by the art of Cinderella and the magic of fairytales and captivated by the art of literary greats such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Bram Stoker.

The community is invited to enjoy the music of the Beatles, Elvis, David Bowie and more as the dancers pay tribute to some of music’s greatest artists.Dancers consist of preschool through high school aged students performing pieces in the styles of tap, ballet, jazz,contemporary, pointe and hip hop.

This will be the third year that The Dance Gallery will host its Major Production at The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences. Each show will be unique with its own performances and dancers but will showcase one magical theme throughout.Tickets for The Dance Gallery’s, “Portraits” go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday, April 21 and range in price from $16 to $33 plus taxes and fees. Tickets can be purchased online at buddyhollyhall.com, by calling (806) 792-8339, and in person at the venue box office at 1300 Mac Davis Lane, Lubbock, TX 79401, open Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. The performance will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 4. The theater doors will open one hour prior to each performance.
