Dancing the day away: Willmar Fests kicks off with coronation of 2022 senior ambassadors

Jun. 23—WILLMAR — Folks danced and swayed the afternoon away over at the Willmar Community Center on Wednesday afternoon after David and Diana Frey were once again crowned the Senior Ambassadors during the 2022 Senior Ambassador Coronation. The Frey's were also the ambassadors for 2021, but due to nobody putting their name in the hat this year, the couple agreed to keep the title another year.

The event, which is one of the earlier Willmar Fest offerings, served as a way to kick off the local celebration, with 2021 Willmar Fest royalty paving the way for 2022 candidates.

This year's Willmar Fest candidates for royalty include Leah Smith, Lleyten Rein and Cresstill Duaso. Their royalty ranks will be chosen on Saturday.
