Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant has confirmed he is getting his skates on to compete in Dancing On Ice this year.

The 18-year-old actor – who has played Jacob Gallagher in the ITV soap for 10 years – is taking a break from Emmerdale to take to the ice on the ITV skating competition.

Plant told This Morning: “I’m super excited. I’m glad I’ve got the time off Emmerdale to really focus on training and try my best. It’s a new challenge I’ve never done anything like this before.”

The soap star revealed he already has his skates and has been wearing them at home, “trying to get the moulded to my feet so they don’t hurt during training”.

But he admitted there had been a hitch when his ice skates first arrived and he realised he had given producers the wrong shoe size. He laughed: “They were just way too big for me.”

Plant said he is most excited about donning sequins and skin-tight Lycra for the show.

He said: “I love getting dressed up - fancy dress parties... that’s the best bit.”

Plant’s Emmerdale character Jacob Gallagher is the adoptive son of Alicia Harding and the biological son of Leyla Harding and Justin Gallagher.

He revealed he has been temporarily written out of the soap so he can take part in the show.

He said: “Jacob’s off to Portugal for six months to visit his mum and he’s got a job working on a boat.”

Plant will join singer and presenter Myleene Klass, 42, and 20 other, soon-to-be-announced celebs will take to the ice in the new year.

The rest of the show’s line-up remains the same: Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby will be presenting, and Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean, Ashley Banjo and John Barrowman will be back as the judges.

Klass announced she would be taking part in the show this year on social media, saying: “I am so, SO excited to be joining the cast of @dancingonice. My girls have always wanted me to do this but I’ve always been too scared someone will skate over my fingers!

“Anyway, I want to make them proud and show them I’m up for a challenge when completely out of my comfort zone but most of all, I want a bum like Jlo!”
