Dancing with the Stars has crowned its winner for the 32nd season, with Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy taking home the Mirrorball Trophy.

The actor, who played America Chavez in MCU film Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, triumphed in a hotly contested final, which saw the remaining couples perform two routines.

Gomez secured perfect marks for her Foxtrot and Freestyle dances, adding to the maximum 80 she achieved in the semi-finals. This put the couple in prime position on the leaderboard, with the public agreeing with the judges as they voted the duo their champion.

“Each week, we've had so much fun and every time that we've had a great dance, and we felt great about it, we had this great feeling,” Gomez told Entertainment Tonight following their triumph. “And that's the same feeling that we're having here - but times, like, 10!”

“We've had so much love, from everyone, to the crew and to the cast and then people outside of just fans, you know? It's just been so much love. And that is what made me really love this whole experience.

“I think that, by far, trumps anything else. You know, the trophy is cool, [but it] is the love that we received,” added Chmerkovskiy, who secured the third Mirrorball Trophy of his career.

The pair beat four other couples to the trophy, with Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach finishing as runners-up; Ariana Madix, Charity Lawson and Alyson Hannigan finished in third, fourth and fifth places respectively.

Gomez and Chmerkovskiy become the first recipients of the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy, which was named in honour of the late judge following his passing earlier this year.

Dancing with the Stars airs on Tuesday nights on ABC in the US, where it also streams on Disney+.
