Dempsey's is one of the busiest eating joints in Watertown, and now those traveling to and from the city have the unique opportunity to try a slice of Chicago at the new Watertown Regional Airport.

Danger von Dempsey's ATY is the third location for the locally owned pizza and brewhouse. This unique space will provide the general public and those traveling through the airport to grab a bite to eat and wet their whistle.

While Todd Syhre was the airport manager, he approached restaurant owner Sean Dempsey about the opportunity to bring his pizza to the new terminal.

"This was part of his dream for this new facility, and it was a great opportunity to jump on board," said Dempsey.

The new location will provide a full bar with their locally brewed beers on tap and bottled, and quick bites, including salads and baskets. But what Dempsey is more excited about is the chance to provide the community and airport travelers a chance to try a unique pizza by the slice or the whole pie.

"When we opened the Aberdeen location, I originally wanted that to be our test kitchen to experiment with different styles of pizza," said Dempsey.

But the distance from Watertown to Aberdeen made it difficult to use that location for new pizza creations. The airport location will now become the test kitchen and will bring some variety to the region's pallet.

"It's a smaller menu, but with a lot more rotation," said Dempsey. "It's more limited than the Watertown location menu, but there will be more variety and more change."

The Watertown Regional Airport provides direct flights to Denver and Chicago. The food culture of these cities will be embraced in the menu options at Danger von Dempsey's ATY.

"We will do a month of Chicago-style dogs and do an all-over Chicago-themed menu," said David Solum, a pizza creator and bar manager at Dempsey's Brewery Restaurant and Pub in Watertown.

One of those pizza experiences is Solum's tavern-style pizzas.

"It's a Chicago thing, but they don't call it a Chicago pizza out there. They call it a tavern," said Solum. "It's a real flat, cornmeal flour, crispy, caramelized cheese, square cut pie."

The new location will provide alcoholic beverages and food for both the secure side of the airport and open to the general public. Those who want to experience something unique at Dempsey's can enjoy a cheesy slice of heaven as they overlook the runway without going through airport security.

This Watertown airport terminal location will also provide some reprieve from the often-busy hustle and bustle experienced at the Watertown restaurant. Dempsey hopes the overflow from downtown will find their way out to the airport to eat in a peaceful, beautiful location.
