Dangerously cold storm is forcing the closure of Great Smoky Mountains National Park roads

A dangerous cold front has moved into East Tennessee and it will bring snow to the mountains and foothills.

Knoxville will experience the bitter cold but will probably only see snow flurries, not any accumulation.

In the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, U.S. 441/Newfound Gap Road was closed starting at 1 p.m. Friday from Gatlinburg to Cherokee, North Carolina. The Cades Cove Loop closed as well.

On Saturday, temperatures will be extremely cold. Wind chills will be in the single digits in Knoxville and could dip to 15 degrees below zero in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown.

A wind chill advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. Saturday. In locations that do receive snow, blowing winds will create blizzard conditions, which will make travel difficult
