Danity Kane's Aubrey O'Day Says 'Let's Stop Pretending' Today's New Music Artists Have Talent
Former Danity Kane member Aubrey O’Day believes today’s music artists don’t need much talent to become famous. The singer thinks this is because the music industry’s “gatekeepers are gone.”
Sirius XM recently posted a clip from a Nov. 17 interview with the singer on its TikTok. During the interview, she shared her unfiltered thoughts about how today’s artists don’t actually have to be talented to become a star. She used rapper and OnlyFans user Bhad Bhabie and TikTok influencer Addison Rae as examples.

Rae became known on TikTok after her dance moves caused her to go viral on the social media platform. She leveraged her fame and went on to be a singer, actress, brand ambassador for major companies and business owner. Although O’Day gave her credit for having “very impressive” dance moves, she feels she didn’t have to work hard the way artists used to.
“Maybe she should go with Gil [Duldulao] and learn Janet Jackson’s choreography like we had to, or stand in front of Diddy, JAY-Z or L.A. Reid and sing and prove yourself every day like I had to,” the 38-year-old said.
When discussing Bhad Bhabie, the Making the Band star referred to her as the “Cash Me Outside” girl, a name she was called after her unforgettable appearance on Dr. Phil spread across the internet like wildfire. She took advantage of the opportunity and not only started rapping, but also created an OnlyFans account a week after her 18th birthday, according to Showbiz CheatSheet. From April 2021 to April 2022, she made more than $52 million on the subscription platform. In addition, it was reported that she bought a $6.1 million home in Florida. Proud of her earnings, she posted her proof of income on her Instagram page.

“Everybody thinks they’re a star, everybody can be a star. You can fart the national anthem on TikTok and you’re more famous than me — you’re more relevant than me, you have bigger numbers than me. Congratulations, but the old-school people had to fight through the gatekeepers every step of the way,” O’Day said.
O’Day gained her claim to fame after appearing on MTV’s 2005 hit TV show Making the Band, created by music mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs. On the show, the reality TV star and her former Danity Kane bandmates had to jump through many hoops to prove their talent to top industry executives, producers, stars and more before being recognized. She mentioned that this has caused a group of people, including herself, to have a chip on their shoulder regarding how easy it is now.
