At 74, Danny DeVito already has a long and diverse career behind him, but fans are now calling for him to take over the high-profile role of superhero Wolverine.

That’s right, as of Wednesday morning, more than 13,800 people had signed a Change.org petition advocating for DeVito to be cast after Hugh Jackman hung up his claws. Jackman, who is now touring the country with a concert show played Wolverine for 17 years, before retiring from the job after 2017’s Logan.

The petition, by a user who goes by Ring Arius, is called “Have Danny DeVito play the rebooted Wolverine in the MCU” and reads: “The only man able to take the throne after Hugh Jackman. We believe that if Wolverine is to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the only man able to pull it off is Danny DeVito.”

Yahoo Entertainment has reached out to DeVito’s rep for comment, and the man himself has yet to respond to the unlikely casting suggestion on Twitter.

However, DeVito devotees are clearly convinced that the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star, with his dry, dark sense of humor, should become an action star.

“He is the obvious choice here.”

“This needs to happen.”

“This is the most important cause I've ever supported.”

“It's f***ing Danny Devito, enough said.”

“This. Is. The. Best. Thing. Ever.”

“He is the hero that we deserve.”

“THIS IS TOO IMPORTANT. I CANNOT STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS ENOUGH.”

“Brilliant challenge for the writers and I'm sure they can solve this one - so we can get a brilliant twisted mad funny Wolverine.”

Interestingly, DeVito portrayed a comic book character for Marvel rival DC Comics in 1992. He starred as Batman foe the Penguin in 1992’s Batman Returns.
