Danny Elfman Records Home Video Performing Oingo Boingo’s “Running on a Treadmill”: Watch

Danny Elfman, the composer and former leader of new wave band Oingo Boingo, has re-recorded one of the band’s songs while in self-isolation. In a video recorded by his daughter on Instagram, Elfman performed “Running on a Treadmill” from the band’s second LP, 1982’s Nothing to Fear. He explained that the urge to revisit the song came during preparation for his set at Coachella this year, which was postponed in the wake of COVID-19.

“Weirdly, as I struggled though those first few weeks, an old tune I had written decades ago began running though my mind,” Elfman wrote. “Eventually I decided not to resist and laid down tracks, just for the simple pleasure. It’s really almost like a nursery rhyme. Maybe under all that stress that's why it came back to me, and just the act of recording it was really calming for my brain.” Check out the video and Elfman’s note in full below.
